Arcipelago
Coffee table
DESIGN BY VALENTINA CAMERANESI SGROI
“I wanted to create objects that would function as ‘liquid’ areas within a space, capable of floating and refracting light. Surfaces are particularly important to me, because the tactile quality of an object plays a central role: the combination of finishes works almost like a makeup palette, or like the contrast between silk and coarse, dry wool. I am not afraid of decoration; I consider the form and formal craftsmanship of an object to be the true reason for its creation. I am drawn to tension and dynamism, and I sought to convey these qualities in the Arcipelago project. My inspiration comes from the way lake ice cracks and from the irregularities of frozen water, as well as from the finishes of beautiful lacquered or craquelé Art Deco objects that shimmer and catch the eye. I admit I have a kind of fascination—almost like a magpie’s attraction—for these details”.
